House of Bread | Service Project
On Monday, September 24th the Burkhardt Team had to opportunity to serve at a local community kitchen. House of Bread is a not-for-profit organization located in Dayton that was founded on the belief that no one deserves to go hungry. They serve a hot lunch (on average) to 230 persons per day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
We helped to prepare, serve, and clean up for lunch. This included going to pick up donated food from a local grocery, prepping the dining room, rolling silverware, sorting vegetables, dicing hundreds of tomatoes, peeling dozens of eggs, grilling food, serving food and drink to guests, and much more. The total numbered served for this day was 280. It was a great experience for all, and we look forward to joining them again in the future.
*Fun fact – we recently did some work with them on their new expansion project: a 4,500 square foot addition with expanded dining space, accessible bathrooms, conference rooms, and more food storage spaces. We are excited for them to receive this well needed addition!
